A Great Portable Speaker For The Outdoors

It may be small, but the Altec Lansing Orbit M is a mini-speaker that can rock with you and your friends. It is compatible with any audio player with a 3.5mm jack (or 2.5mm with its adapter) and can be brought anywhere thanks to its small profile.

The iMT237 sports a rugged design, with it being tough enough to withstand hits and bumps. The company has also included a case with the package, giving it added protection while in transit. A 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter, lanyard, carabiner, and three AAA batteries are also included.

The Orbit M is about 1.5 inches high, with the speaker sitting on top of the device. One can find the battery compartment and the cord at the bottom, with Altec Lansing creating an area where you can wrap your cord around and park the 3.5mm jack to keep things tidy. The unit also comes with an on/off button and power indicator which lets you know when it is time to change the batteries.

Operating the unit is simple: all one has to do is to hook the speakers to any audio source that has a 3.5mm or 2.5mm jack, turn on the Orbit, and increase or decrease the volume output from the source.

Altec Lansing claims that the Orbit M is a ‘mighty little speaker,’ and we agree. For $69, you get a good portable speaker that provides decent sound at just the right volume. You can push the unit further by increasing the volume, but just remember that this speaker suffers from distortion at high levels. 

The unit lasted for about 22 hours in our tests, which sufficient enough for those weekend picnics or barbecues.
