The Nokia N9, announced last month, will be sold through the ‘Big 3’ telco’s as well as all “major retailers”, it was confirmed today.
The high-end smartphone, has a 3.9-inch AMOLED panel and ClearBlack display, 8-megapixel autofocus camera with Carl Zeiss optics, wide-angle lens, HD video capture and large lens aperture.
It will even help you walk home with turn-by-turn drive and walk navigation and runs on Nokia MeeGo OS.
N9 “all-screen” design means there is no physical home button but banks on touch and swipe gestures to navigate around the homescreen.
There are three homescreens arranged in a carousel – designed around the things people typically do the most.
The first for accessing apps; the second is dedicated to social networking, calling, texting and calendar functions; the third shows which applications are open.
Released in October 2011, the ‘all screen smartphone” coming in black, blue and pink ( for 16GB) black for 64GB model, has all of the big telco’s falling over itself as it battles for sales simultaneously, with none afforded the luxury of an exclusive deal.
Optus is “excited”, Vodafone are “thrilled”, while Telstra branded the N9 “special.”
“Optus has had a very strong relationship with Nokia over a number of years and we’re excited to continue this with the Nokia N9,” Gavin Williams, Optus Consumer marketing director, said.
“Our customers have shown a lot of loyalty to Nokia as a brand and manufacturer of quality products in the past and we expect that to continue with this highly impressive smartphone device.”
Telstra’s Mobile Products director, Andrew Volard, also added: “It’s clear that Nokia fans have something quite special to look forward to in the Nokia N9.” “It’s fast, simple to navigate and features a beautiful design that sets the N9 apart in a crowded smarpthone market.”
While Voda were also “thrilled” saying: “Nokia N9 is where form meets function- this is a sleek, stylish and highly intuitive smartphone, offering customers a device that looks as good as it feels.”
The N9 casing is made from material commonly used in ice hockey helmets and the paint is bled right through the material so the colour remains even if you scratch it,
This hardy material also means superior antenna, better reception, better voice quality, fewer dropped calls and a higher GPS accuracy, Nokia claims.
It is also NFC-enabled, which allows the sharing of images and videos between devices by touching them together.
Make up your own mind in October.
