Harvey Norman stores were flooded with newcomers to the tablet sphere when prices nosedived for HP’s recently-released TouchPad after the company announced it would abandon mobile devices.
Stockists cut prices down to under $100 to clear stock for what was set to be a defunct product once HP stopped supporting the WebOS-run tablets.
Rumours immediately surfaced that hackers and developers alike would port the popular Android operating system onto the devices, and lo and behold, the modification team from CyanogenMod has brought its Android platform to the TouchPad.

Though it’s more of a proof of concept for now than a working build – the modders have released a video showing the software running on a TouchPad which is currently in Alpha stages of testing. With the mad consumer rush for cheap TouchPads, the group says they are looking for more of the scarce TouchPads to test and develop on.
The future vision of the modders is that the TouchPad would be able to ‘multiboot’ an array of operating systems, whether they be Android, the native WebOS or other systems.
