Queues of Apple fans were reported camped out in the cold outside Down Under Apple stores to be the first to get their paws on the new iPhone 7, which went on sale in the early hours of today. At the top of the queue outside the main Sydney store, according to an AAP newswire report was 17-year-old Bishoy Behman, who was said to have arrived first thing on Wednesday morning to avoid missing out on the front-row seat.

Given that iPhone sales these days are not as tumultuous as they once were, his early attack may not have been necessary – but it certainly got Apple a headline or two.

Arrival of the new model 7 has however been given an additional kick, following Samsung pulling its new Galaxy Note 7 model from the market following reports of exploding batteries.

And Apple Australia certainly did its part to encourage the queuers, by supplying charges for their current models and providing 24-hour free Wi-Fi.
