It’s taken more than 10 days but Apple has finally issued a patch to fix a dangerous security flaw in iPhones and iPads.Apple was notified a week
and a half ago about the flaw in its mobile devices including iPhone and iPads.
It’s not known if the Apple Watch is also at risk.
The hack is the first known case of software that can remotely take over an
iPhone 6.
The program takes advantage of three flaws that Apple was not aware of.
An infected phone becomes a digital spy capable of employing the iPhone camera
and microphone to snoop on activity in the vicinity of the device, recording
WhatsApp and Viber calls, logging messages sent in mobile chat apps, and
tracking a user’s movements.
The attack software is attributed to an Israeli company, NSO Group, which makes
software for governments that can secretly target mobile phones and gather
information. A tool that can remotely exploit a current iPhone can cost as much
as US$1 million.
