Apple is planning to release its mixed-reality headset just before this June’s Worldwide Developers Conference.
According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, perhaps the most reliable Apple tipster on the net, the Californian tech giant is “aiming to unveil it this spring ahead of the annual Worldwide Developers Conference in June.”
Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo had previously said the device will go on sale either later in the second quarter of 2023, or possibly during the third quarter. This timeline matches Gurman’s.
The headset, currently called ‘Reality Pro’ will harness a blend of virtual reality, and augmented reality capabilities.
Apple has postponed the device numerous times since beginning its development in 2017.
According to Gurman, the headset’s operating system is dubbed ‘Borealis’ internally, but will come to market as the xrOS.
He also claims Apple has given prototypes to a “small number of high-profile software developers” in order to develop apps for it, and that Apple is “banking on the product as its hot new introduction for this year.”
