New claims by US-based Consumer Reports have found Microsoft’s Surface devices sorely lacking when it comes to reliability.
As originally reported by Reuters, The nonprofit’s latest reliability study found that 25% of Surface users encountered “problems by the end of the second year of ownership.”
The survey ranked Apple and Samsung highest for reliability while Microsoft was left in last place.
“These conclusions are based on our breakage rate estimates for laptops by the end of the second year of ownership, gathered from subscribers’ experiences with 41,304 laptops purchased new between 2014 and the first quarter of 2017,” the nonprofit publication said.
The report comes only months after a report by iFixit rated the new Surface Laptop 0-out-of-10 for repairability.
“The Surface Laptop is not a laptop. It’s a glue-filled monstrosity. There is nothing about it that is upgradable or long-lasting, and it literally can’t be opened without destroying it,” they said.
Microsoft has disputed the study, saying “we don’t believe these findings accurately reflect Surface owners’ true experiences or capture the performance and reliability improvements made with every Surface generation.”
