The first film to be released under this new model is Australia Day – fresh from its world premiere at Sydney Film Festival – which will be available to watch in the “Express from Cinema” section of the Foxtel Store and on Dendy Direct on September 27th, a week after film debut.
Greg Hughes, CEO of Dendy states of the decision:
“Dendy is the only vertically integrated business in Australia offering both exhibition and on demand. It is therefore uniquely positioned to entertain a wider audience by combining the big screen experience of Dendy Cinemas and the national reach of our online movie platform Dendy Direct”
“This business model which we are branding ‘Dendy Marquee’ will offer consumers more choice, accessibility, and immediacy in the consumption of quality specialty content”.
Mr Hughes states that the rising growth of digital adoption provides a “significant opportunity” for on-demand streaming, which will add value to the content creation process for filmmakers, consumers, and exhibitors – and still maintaining cinematical exhibition as the “gold standard”.
A new film title will be launching to the new distribution model every fortnight.
