Google has put the call out to Pixel owners to submit their best photos for the chance to be featured as a background on Chromecast devices.
A Google employee announced the opportunity via the Pixel User Community forum. Selected photos will be shown to “millions” of Chromecast users during the screensaver-like feature called Backdrop, which displays an image slideshow when nothing is being streamed to the device.
“If you’d like your photos to be considered, hashtag them with #teampixel on Google+, Instagram or Twitter. We’ll reach out to potential features via direct message on the platform you posted with additional directions on how to get featured,” Google employee ‘Crystal On Pixel’ wrote.
For the best chance of being featured, photos should be family friendly and feature no people, logo, watermarks or branding. Landscape-oriented photos are ideal, and suggested photography content includes “Landscapes, Macro, Nature, Animals, Abstract, Life, Cities, Buildings, Textures”.
Typically the images shown through Backdrop, including photos, satellite images and art, are selected by Google employees. The company has previously said that photos “have a higher chance of being featured” if they are popular on the company’s own social media network Google+, and if they meet a number of requirements.
Google is expected to release a new version of the Pixel close to the release of the next version of its smartphone operating system codenamed Android O. Recent rumours have suggested the next Pixel will be available in an ‘XXL’ size and will be manufactured by LG.
Interested Pixel owners have until June 30 to submit photos on social media using #teampixel.
