After registering two new internet domains, the prospect of Microsoft and Sony forming a future alliance seems possible.
Microsoft has recently registered two domain names hinting to an alliance with game console arch-rival Sony.
After registering Microsoft-Sony.com and Sony-Microsoft.com, the internet has come alive with speculation with what potential the partnership could offer.
Although rivals in the gaming console environment, Sony and Microsoft do have a strong alliance in the PC industry, with most of Sony’s Viao range notebooks using a Windows operating system, noted TheNextWeb.
Mircrosoft’s lead corporate communications Frank Shaw downplayed the move and claimed it is “just a defensive domain hold.”
He also took to Twitter to comment on the move, Tweeting “Sony = great MS partner. No scoop here, this was just a defensive domain hold. Let’s move on to weekend, kay? :)”
At present, the Microsoft Xbox 360 console recently made its way into the Guinness book of records with its Kinect motion controller, becoming the fastest consumer electronics product of all time. In contrast, the Sony brand has been ambushed time and time again with its recent Playstation network hackings.
With the healthy game audience on both consoles, the newly registered domain names leave loads to the imagination. And the interweb.
