Recent reports have revealed discussions about a revolutionary deal between Microsoft and Sony, which could result in Xbox and PlayStation users playing against each other online.
The feature is said to be named “CrossPlay”.
Aaron Greenberg, Microsoft’s Marketing Manager states:
“We’re talking to Sony [about crossplay], we do partner with them on Minecraft and of course we would like to enable them to be part of that; one community, to unite gamers. So we’re talking to them and we’re hopeful that they’ll be supportive of it”.
The reports come on the back of Microsoft’s announcement that it has sold out pre-orders for its new console, Xbox One X, in record time.
Previously, it was said Sony was not encouraging of fostering CrossPlay within its platforms, however, it seems the company has had a change of heart this year, after embracing cross-play through its football/driving crossover, Rocket League.
Mr. Greenberg states that Microsoft is “absolutely” in talks with Sony regarding CrossPlay.
