Motorola who appear to have given up on the premium end of the market is now taking a stab at growing their share in the budget market that is dominated by Alcatel.
The new models that the Lenovo owned Company are hawking around retailers and carriers include the Moto G7, the Moto G7 Power and a new entry Moto G7 Play whats not known is when the devices will be launched in Australia with several Countries already selling the new devices.
The Moto G7 is the flagship of the series, it comes with Gorilla Glass 3 on the back and has curved edges that make it easy to hold.
It also has a camera bump and a fingerprint sensor, which doubles as the Motorola logo on the back.
The frame is made of plastic coated with metal in a process called vacuum metalization, and Motorola said this helps hide those pesky antenna lines around the phone that can clutter up the look.
The Moto G7 Play, is set to be the least expensive member of the new G Series family. The 151-gram handset measures 148.71 x 71.5 x 8.19 millimeters — a tad lighter and more compact than its predecessor.
It’s an all-plastic affair that comes with a ribbed, grippy backplate is really comfortable in the hand.
A single speaker and 5.7-inch screen round out the front — the resolution of the display screen has been slightly upgraded from 1,440 x 720 pixels on the G6 Play to 1,512 x 720 pixels on the G7 Play — all shielded by a water-repellent P2i nano-coating.
Under the hood, the Play’s packing Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 632 system-on-chip paired with a 1.8GHz octa-core processor and an Adreno 506 graphics chip.
Moto G7
The new G7 features what Motorola is calling a “u-design”: contoured Gorilla Glass, slim bezels, and a rounded teardrop-shaped cutout in the top-center portion. As with most glass phones, it’s a bit slippery — and a real fingerprint magnet.
The 157 x 75.3 x 8-millimeter, 172-gram phone roughly shares dimensions with the Moto G6 (153.8 x 72.3 x 8.3 and 167 grams). But it’s a different story under the hood — the G7 swaps the G6’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 chip for an octa-core Snapdragon 632 clocked at 1.8GHz (with Adreno 506 graphics, 4GB of RAM, and 64GB of storage). Meanwhile, the 6.2-inch Full HD+ LTPS LCD screen has picked up a few pixels — 2,270 x 1,080 pixels compared with the last-gen model’s 2,160 x 1,080 pixels — and it features scratch- and nick-resistant Corning Gorilla Glass.
Like the Moto G7 Play, the Moto G7’s wireless chip is compatible with Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n 2.4GHz and 5GHz, and as with the G7 Play, NFC is MIA. The 3.5mm headphone jack offers some consolation, as does the 3,000mAh battery with Motorola’s fast-charging 15W Turbo Power tech.
The Moto G7 is tipped to start at $399 in Australia and is available today in Brazil and Mexico. It will come to European countries in mid-February, after which it’ll roll out in select Asia-Pacific, Latin America, and North America markets.
