Dopod has jumped onto the GPS phone bandwagon with the release of a new GPS enabled PDA and phone; the P800W.
This Swiss-army knife type device weighs in at 128 grams, is 16.8mm thin and features wLAN access, Bluetooth, a built-in FM radio and a 2 megapixel camera.
The GPS map software is not included, though the device is GPS enabled. By purchasing the software, you can attach map data to photographs taken with the in-built digital camera or those that are emailed to you. This means you can navigate to the point of interest pictured in the photograph.
The company will also in early 2007 complement this ‘photo navigation’ capability with NaviGuide – a website which will allow you to upload your GPS photos to share the spots with the Dopod community. A similar service which is currently offered by dedicated GPS and navigation device maker, Navman.
The P800W operates on the Windows Mobile 5.0 platform and comes with a 128MB built-in ROM and 64MB RAM.
