Taiwan’s HTC will launch its latest Android smartphone, dubbed Hero, in Australia next week. The Hero will replace the HTC Magic Android phone, which has been marketed by Vodafone and Hutchison “3”, now banded together as VHA.

The Hero sports a 3.2-inch HVGA touch-screen, dedicated search button, GPS, digital compass, gravity-sensor, 5-megapixel autofocus camera and expandable microSD memory.

It’s a slightly futuristic looking device, with a jutting “chin” an HTC trademark and a bright screen. Users will get HTC’s customised “Sense”
interface, along with a good Web browser with touch-screen operation and a bundle of widgets.

At next week’s launch the Hero will be accompanied by the HTC Tattoo, a more mainstream, budget-priced model.
