The new 32GB iPhone will also incorporate a new camera, a compass, and improved battery life. The move is set to put pressure on manufacturers of Google Android phones including Samsung and HTC.
Since it’s release 18 months ago Apple has sold more than 21 million iPhones in more than 80 countries according to the research company Gartner.This has given them 10% of the global phone market. Now with the introduction of a low cost iPhone Apple is expected to increase it’s share of the market with some analysts tipping that this could rise to 12% by Xmas.
For current owners Apple is set to release a new iPhone 3.0 operating system, which will include the ability to cut and paste text and an improved search function. The new operating system will be released in July and will be downloadable for current iPhone owners.
According to the UK Times Apple will also showcase its new Snow Leopard operating system for Mac computers at the WWDC. Snow Leopard will come out later this year as Microsoft prepares to release its new version of the Windows operating system, used on 90 per cent of the world’s personal computers. Windows 7 will go on sale on October 22, Microsoft said this week.
