Apple will launch their new iPad in Australia on May 28th at a reccomended retail price of $629 for a Wi Fi model.
Carriers such Telstra, Vodafone and Optus will sell a 3G enabled iPad device with some carriers tipped to offer a $0 dollar purchase on 24 month plan. the new device will deliver books and subscription services to magazines and newspapers including books by Australian authours.
Apple will use the device to compete with Foxtel and Telstra BiPond as well as TiVo by delivering movie and TV program viewing along with music from the iTunes store.
The Australian launch which was delayed two months from the US global launch is expected to be as succesful comes after Apple’s announced earlier in the week that it had sold over one million of the tablet computers since they went on sale in the US on April 3.
In addition, iPad users in the US have downloaded over 12 million apps and over 1.5 million e-books.
