Australian gamers who modified their Xbox 360 consoles have been kicked of XBox Live a Microsoft insider has told SmartHouse.
Worldwide Microsoft is believed to have given over 600,000 of their 20,000,000 registered subscribers the boot for using a modified gaming console with several hundred of those users believed to be Australian owners of a modified Xbox360.
12 months ago Microsoft warned users that if they modified, or used a modified console that there would be consequences.
Modifying an Xbox 360 to play copies of games is “a violation of the Xbox Live terms of use”, Microsoft warned on 13 November 2008, adding that such actions will void your console’s warranty and see your access to Xbox Live rescinded – permanently.
While Microsoft has refused to confirm how many Australian’s have been given the boot they have confirmed that Australian’s are affected by the ban.
It’s unclear if the confirmed cut-offs were made en masse during the last few days or spread across the seven years that Xbox Live has been in existence.
According to the Register in the UK, a legal case was last month brought against Sony by a PSN gamer kicked off the service after it was alleged that they persistently using racist and homophobic language.
