TAIPEI – Apple is planning to update its recently released iPad Mini next year with a Retina display, according to a Chinese language newspaper, quoting Asian supply chain sources.
One of the most consistent criticisms of the iPad Mini has been its 163 pixels-per-inch display.
A Retina screen – as used on the latest 9.7-inch iPad, as well as some MacBooks and other Apple models – would give the Mini a 300-pixel display, experts say.
Chinese-language DoNews claimed that display maker AUO is working on a 2048 by 1536 pixel resolution display for the next iPad Mini. But it said the new display wouldn’t appear until next year, probably in the second half.
