The world is not in a global tizzy over tablets, according to new research from In-Stat, which says that 91 percent of all tablet unit shipments in 2015 will only come from three regions.North America, Asia Pacific and Western Europe are responsible for much of the hype surrounding the much vaunted device.
Stephanie Ethier, a senior analyst at the research company said: “There is obviously strong potential for tablets, as there has been with other mobile electronic devices. One key difference, however, is that the commercial market also represents a potential revenue opportunity for tablet OEMs.
“Usage models and user requirements will differ in the commercial market, but as the overall tablet market becomes more defined, the opportunities for tablets within business markets will become more apparent.”
In-Stat also found that portable media players represent the largest number of portable devices shipped in 2010, accounting for 129 billion units.
North America is fuelling much of the e-reader market with 58 percent of units shipped in 2015 to North American consumers.
Meanwhile handheld game console shipments are also expecting a bumper year, with growth at over 20 percent during the next year as a result of the Nintendo 3DS launch, says In-Stat.
