It’s fast, it’s dual core, and it’s here. The first ever mobile phone to use a dual-core processor, and has claimed a Guinness World Record to boot, is to be made available down under by LG this month.

Although it will now compete with other smartphones running on Android’s 2.3 Gingerbread platform, the Froyo running Optimus 2X has been described as ‘blisteringly fast’ in the UK. However, LG says it will announce an upgrade path to 2.3 later in the year.
It is powered by NVIDIA Tegra 2 modile dual-core CPU, which has clear advantages in web browsing and console-like gaming experiences.
It also offers multitasking between applications and instantaneous touch response along with vivid graphics.
Users also get the benefit of a full HD multimedia experience with 1080p video recording and playback.
The Optimus 2X has superior connectivity and file sharing features, and a content mirroring feature via its micro HDMI port, through which you can hook the phone up to a TV or PC monitor.
This feature is aimed at giving gamers a quality, big screen experience that rivals handheld gaming consoles from Nintendo and Sony Ericsson.
Nathan Dunn, general manager of LG Mobile Communications, said: “The LG Optimus 2X’s enhanced speed, advanced graphics and high-end features such as content mirroring through an HDMI interface are the kind of high-end features that appeal to Australian consumers looking for the very best in smartphone technology.”
In addition the DLNA enabled phone also has 7.1 multi-channel virtual surround sound, and is the closest product to feature theatre quality entertainment on a mobile device.
The phone will initially be made available through Harvey Norman stores this month, but there are plans to expand the Optimus 2X to other retail channels via open distribution.
Ben McIntosh, general manager for computers and communications at Harvey Norman said the company was excited to be working with LG on the launch.
“The Optimus 2X, with its dual-core processor and range of cutting edge features, is very appealing to our customers who are always looking for the latest and best in technology,” he said.
“The LG Electronics – Harvey Norman relationship spans many different product areas and we are now looking at how we jointly deliver great smartphone products to market and take advantage of the growing consumer demand in this area,” McIntosh continued.
The Optimus 2X comes with 8GB internal memory and 512 MB RAM. Its microSD memory can be expanded up to 32GB, and it supports Adobe Flash Player 10.1. It will retail at $649.
