TP Vision is ramping up its integration of the Android operating system for Philips TVs, advising that almost its entire 2015 range will be powered by Android TV.TP, which develops, manufactures and markets Philips-branded TV sets, states this will include Philips smart TVs and all Philips UHD TVs, with all TVs launching in 2015 to feature the latest version of Android TV.
With Android Lollipop fully integrating the TV platform and bringing dedicated Android TV apps to the big screen, TP states the upcoming range of Philips smart TVs will feature “a further improved graphical user interface”, making use of the new Android TV launcher.
Combined with Android, the Philips smart TV platform will provide services including video on demand and catch-up TV, while all Philips smart TVs powered by Android provide access to online gaming services such as OnLive.
“We want to leverage the advantage of being a pioneer member of Android’s large, fast-growing ecosystem,” commented Albert Mombarg, TP head of smart TV.
“It attracts a huge base of developers, who now can easily adapt their apps for different types of devices, including TVs.”
