You don’t have to be an expert to acknowledge thin TVs have a thin sound. KEF designers have been watching the paring down of big screen TVs and their meagre sound for quite a while.
Their natural instinct to hi-fi quality TV sound was to recommend adding KEF’s world acclaimed speakers powered by a quality stereo or surround amplifier to the TV, to bypass the set’s sonically impoverished speaker system.
While this approach has delighted millions of KEF speaker buyers around the world, KEF designers realised smart apartment dwellers and anyone else with a space problem required another solution. After exacting research at KEF HQ, the brand’s V Series Digital TV Sound Systems came to fruition.

These ultra-slim models also universally known as ”Sound-bars” have everything needed to vastly improve any TV’s sound, including quality speakers, powerful amplifiers and digital sound processing – and the wonder is it’s all packaged in a single, sleek, space-saving package which can be augmented by a compact, dedicated KEF bass speaker called a sub-woofer.
KEF’s $1199 V700 is a perfect match for all HDTVs with screen sizes starting at 47-inches.
Its tiny footprint and depth of just 2.1-inches (53mm) makes for a snug and unobtrusive fit under a TV. It can optionally be discreetly placed on furniture using the subtle supplied stands designed to adjust just the right tilt so the V700 can deliver a big, musical, detailed sound to match the size of the screen.
Inside its compact but stylish chassis, the V700 carries four high performance KEF 4.5-inch (115mm) patented, ultra-slim bass drivers and two one-inch (25mm) aluminum tweeters.
KEF has given the V700 its unique ”Tangerine” waveguide technology which was developed to generate a solid, 3D acoustic image which is guaranteed to enthrall any TV viewer with an all-encompassing, finely detailed high definition sound.
Power for the V700’s squad of six classy KEF speakers is provided by a built-in Class-D digital amplifier which also has user selectable sound equalisation settings to tailor the bass response so it suits different environments including placement of the V700 on a wall or a desk top.
Designed for easy installation, the V700 is a plug ‘n play model connecting to a TV using a single HDMI cable. Navigating the V700’s features is done by the existing TV remote which will allow users to power the V700 on or off, mute it or raise and lower its volume level.
V700 also comes as the $1,599 V720W model which includes the V-20W, wireless sub-woofer. The V-20W is an ultra-compact model which uses a KEF 8-inch driver powered by a hefty 200-watt Class-D amplifier to produce a copious amount of precise, extended trouser flapping bass.
KEF also ranges a stereo TV sound system called the V300.
