Logitech has ramped up the capabilities of its smart remote controls, by integrating Amazon Alexa voice commands within its new ‘Harmony Express.’
Retailing for US$249.99 (Australian availability to be confirmed), the device is marketed as a universal smart remote that users can talk to – prompting some commentators to question impact of its high price tag.
A significant shake-up from previous Harmony remotes, the devices encompasses a small compact design, fewer buttons, and forgoes the traditional touch screen.
With built-in Amazon Alexa voice intelligence, users can interact with the device’s microphone to hear Alexa responses.
Users can usher phrases like “Go to Netlix”, prompting their TV to power on, switch to HDMI and load the app.
Compared to its predecessors, the Logitech Harmony remote is more geared towards everyday consumers versus the home theatre enthusiast.
“We’re thrilled to see Logitech simplifying the home theater experience by bringing the convenience of Alexa to its Harmony Express remote,” states Amazon Alexa VP, Pete Thompson, to TechCrunch.
“With Alexa built-in, you can easily search and navigate content, control smart devices, access thousands of skills, and more – all you need is your voice.”
