EXCLUSIVE: International distributors operating out of Hong Kong are offering Australians branded goods such as Nikon, Olympus Samsung Canon, Sony and Panasonic digital cameras and memory at discounts of between 80 and 60% off the recommended retail price in Australia.
In one marketing email seen by SmartHouse, distributor called Drop Shipping Limited is offering a Nikon Coolpix S8000 Digital Camera for A$186. The recommended retail price in Australia is $499. A Nikon D90 Kit AF-S 18-105mm VR Lens Digital SLR Camera is being offered for $929. The recommended retail price in Australia $1,549.

Among the cheapest products offered on the dropshipgs.com web site are Sony Camera’s. In Australia the Sony NEX5 with a 16mm 18-55 lens sells for $1,049 in Sony Centre shops. Via DGS the same camera is $680 a saving of $369 which is not surprising as Sony digital camera’s are often sold at a premium in Australia.
The Hong Kong based Company which is offering delivery times of between 2 and 4 days said that they are also looking for online retail accounts in Australia who want to sell Sony, Olympus, Panasonic and Samsung camera’s.
The Company claims that all warranty claims will be supported by the Company in Hong Kong.
“We ship to any Country in the world. We have access to most brands of digital cameras and we are cheap”.
A Canon EOS 550D Single IS Lens Kit which includes the Canon EOS 550D Body, the Canon EF-S 18-55mm f3.5-5.6 IS Lens, and the Canon EF-S 55-250mm f4-5.6 IS, is being offered for $921. A similar Canon Digital SLR kit at Camera House is $1,599.
Craig Gillespie Marketing Manager at Nikon Australia said “We are concerned as to where these cameras have come from and so should the consumer. With any grey imported product you don’t know the true origin and there are risks associated when buying from overseas”.
He did not address the issue of the big price difference between the overseas offered products and what the same products are selling for in Australia.
