With a 360-degree rotating touchscreen, dedicated graphics, 13.3 or 15.6-inch screens and Intel Core i3, i5 and i7 options, Asus plans to put the 2-in-1 convertible market into a spin.
The new Asus Transformer Book Flip has arrived to expand the Company’s wide range of 2-in-1 devices.
Sporting Windows 8.1, 4th-gen Core i3/i5/i7 processors, the option of discrete Nvidia GeForce GT840M graphics, 4GB RAM, storage options between 750GB and 1TB and more, Asus says its hinge design enables the screen to be set at any angle between zero and 360 degrees.
Like the Lenovo Yoga convertible, this means the Transformer Flip can be used as a powerful laptop, a responsive tablet, or anything in between.
Australians will get the Flip in a choice of two sizes: 13.3 inches and 15.6 inches, making them suitable for work, play or school.
Although the Yoga 2 and 3 Pro have Quad HD+ screens for Retina-like resolution, the Asus Transformer Flip features a Full HD 1920 x 1080 touch screen.

The hinge at the base of the screen has four gears to provide a smooth, easy movement, ensuring the screen stays exactly where the user wants it while making it effortless to adjust. ?
From standard laptop mode, the screen can be instantly flipped to suit whatever task the user wants to perform – whether it’s a media stand for watching a movie or viewing photos, a shared viewer for easy collaboration with friends, family or colleagues, or a tablet for playing the latest games.
As you’d expect, an automatic keyboard and touchpad lock is activated whenever Flip is used in non-laptop modes, so you won’t have problems with unwanted input.
Amping up its tablet credentials, Asus says the Flip’s touchscreen is “incredibly accurate and responsive thanks to its high-precision 6mm-diametre actuators, which are more than twice as sensitive as the 9mm industry standard.”
To add to this, Asus’ own “Splendid technology” gives rich, deep and vibrant colours on screen, promising to ensure a “visually stunning experience for any kind of content.”
Thanks to years of Asus design innovation with its ultrabook range, the Flip has a compact aluminium chassis gives Flip strength, durability and elegance, with a seamless one-piece chiclet keyboard that Asus says has been ergonomically designed for an “optimum typing feel”, with a large multi-touch touchpad supporting Smart Gestures for “precise and natural fingertip control”.
With Asus’ Instant On tech, the Flip takes just two seconds to resume from sleep, with a charged battery enabling up to 14 days of sleep mode. Then, when power drops below 5%, Asus says files and data are “automatically backed up”, which presumably means Windows’ “hibernate mode” is activated.
Asus’ SonicMaster audio tech also shines, with Asus saying it gives Flip “best audio experience in its class”. To back this up, Asus says the Flip has “larger speakers and resonance chambers than standard laptops”, meaning “spectacular” audio quality.
Asus promises its users will experience “deeper and richer bass, a wider frequency range, distinct vocals and pristine clarity”, which also makes Flip a great “multimedia partner, with every song, movie or game sounding better thanks to its carefully balanced and dynamic audio.”
There’s also the Asus WebStorage cloud storage facility, included with every Flip, ensuring “files and documents are accessible anywhere from a host of devices”, although with everyone offering some free cloud storage space these days, this is to be expected.
Available this mont from “national retailers and authorised ASUS channel resellers”, RRP pricing begins at $799 for the 13.3-inch model and $999 for the 15.6-inch model.
