EXCLUSIVE: Tens of thousands of Telstra iPhone customers are set to face major problems upgrading their iPhone to the new 3.0 iPhone operating system.
According to a Telstra shop executive in Sydney “many” customers have already found themselves locked out of the Telstra network after attempting an upgrade.
SmartHouse discovered the problem after undertaking an upgrade via the iTunes software. When the upgrade was rejected, we were forced to do a restore. When this was completed we found that the Telstra SIM card could not be activated.
After taking the phone to a Telstra shop we were informed that “the only way to fix the problem is to visit a Telstra shop to have the SIM re activated” said a Telstra store executive.
They also said” We have already done several reactivations today. It is a problem, a big problem and we anticipate that we will get a lot of customers coming in as they hit upgrade problems”.
After Telstra had reactivated the phone we discovered that all previous contacts, messages and favourites had been deleted along with all downloaded applications.
Upgrading an iPhone 3G from 2.2.1 to 3.0 should take around 15- 20 minutes. There is arouund 230MB of software download.
A spokesperson for Apple was not available.
