Building on their expansion earlier this month into The Good Guys with the A77, Oppo today announced Australian availability for their next major smartphone: the R11.
“OPPO is committed to bringing the best products and experiences to Australian consumers,” said Michael Tran, executive director of Oppo Australia at the device’s Sydney launch event.
He says “The R11 builds off the success of the R7 and R9 product series and will quickly become a favourite among price sensitive consumers looking for an amazing camera phone.”
“We are excited for consumers to get hands on with the device and experience the improved technology, enhanced features and premium look and feel for themselves.”
The 5.5-inch smartphone (which runs on a version of Android 7.1 flavoured by Oppo’s own ColorOS) boasts a HD display, Snapdragon 660 processor and 4GB of RAM. When it comes to performance, Oppo say it offers gains of 20% over the Snapdragon 653 processor used in the R9.
Then, in terms of on-board storage, the R11 comes preloaded with 64GB of on-board storage. However, this can be expanded using a MicroSD card.
As you’d expect, Oppo are also promising that the R11 will live up to the brand’s legacy for long battery life and short charge times. The company say that the device’s 3000mAh battery can be charged from zero to 65% in half an hour and offer 2 hours of talk time after just five minutes of charging.
Of course, the biggest asset on the table is the R11’s camera. Marking Oppo entry into the world of dual-lens smartphone cameras, the R11 features both a 20-megapixel and a 16-megapixel camera on the back. They say that the two lenses are able to intelligently adjust exposure levels between portrait subjects and the background in order to produce optimal results, such as striking ‘Bokeh’ effect found in flagship smartphones from companies like Huawei and Apple.
The company also note that “together, with its IMX398 sensor and an f/1.7 big aperture, the R11 boasts a faster focus speed than the earlier R9s model, producing vivid colours and better photography capabilities in low light.”
The R11’s primary camera comes accompanied by a 20-megapixel front-facing lens designed for selfies. Oppo claim it leverages automatic HDR and intelligent skin tone beautification technology to get the best results.
According to Tran, “Today, the smartphone is our camera of choice and of utmost importance for Aussie consumers. We want to share our favourite places, people and activities at a moment’s notice in stunning detail. The R11 has been designed with this in mind, receiving significant upgrades to both its hardware and software.”
The Oppo R11 will be available through JB Hi-Fi, Woolworths, The Good Guys, Officeworks, Optus, Virgin Mobile and Vodafone from the 31st of July at a recommended retail price of $649.
