SAN FRANCISCO – Competitors to Apple are bombarding the media with announcements in the hope they can dovetail off its imminent launch of its latest iPhone.
Amazon.com, Motorola Mobility and Nokia are all announcing new hand-held devices ahead of Apple’s expected announcement of a new iPhone next week..
The product launches begin in the US today, when Google subsidiary Motorola is expected to take the wraps off a top-of-the-line Droid Razr phone at a New York event.
Meanwhile, across town, Nokia is expected to roll out its first devices running Windows Phone 8, the latest mobile operating system from Microsoft.
Tomorrow, Amazon is expected to introduce a new version of its Kindle Fire, the US-only tablet it uses to sell books and movies to capture Yankee couch-consumer dollars.
Apple’s new iPhone is expected to be introduced at an as-yet-unannounced event on September 12.
