Netflix has named the Samsung Galaxy Note 8 as the fourth phone to support Netflix HDR video playback.
The smartphone is scheduled for release on September 15th, which should expose Netflix HDR to a much bigger audience.
The Galaxy Note 8 joins the LG V30, Sony Xperia XZ1 and Sony XZ Premium as supported devices.
Unfortunately, only Netflix users who have subscribed to the premium 4k streaming plan will be able to watch HDR video on their smartphones.
Whilst the HDR market is currently muddy with various competing standards, HDR generally offers better colour accuracy and colour ratios.
Samsung has been working with Amazon to develop a HDR format named HDR10+. Currently, Samsung’s Note 7, Galaxy S8+ and Note 8 all have HDR-supported display.
