A Samsung site has made mention of a “Notchless Infinity Screen” on the company’s upcoming new flagship to its mid-range Galaxy A series, Galaxy A90, expected to launch next month.
Spotted by Dutch site Galaxy Club, Samsung’s Indonesian site has added details of the upcoming device ahead of its official reveal.
A footnote on an image of an A30 or A50 model — both of which feature a hole-punch notch — notes “*Notchless Infinity screen only available on Galaxy A90.”
The page has no images of the upcoming model and not other relevant data, so likely this page simply went live before it was meant to. At the time of writing the text is still there.
Many are speculating that the “Notchless Infinity Display” could simply mean it will feature a hole-punch front camera, like the Galaxy S10.
Rumours state that Samsung is going down another route and will avoid interfering with the display by including a pop-up selfie camera or even a rotating camera system.
Notable, and more accurate than not leaker, Ice Universe, first made a claim for a front camera workaround back in February.
Many feel that Samsung’s decision to include a skateboarder doing an ollie in its promotion for the announcement event is hinting at the potential pop-up camera.
Technically, the S8 and S9 both featured Infinity Displays without notches, including bezels instead.
Also, it isn’t clear what Samsung concludes as “notchless.”
At the company’s developer conference in November, Samsung revealed four kinds of Infinity screens: U (with a notch), V (with a notch), O (hole-punch cutout like on S10), and the “New Infinity” display.
This “New Infinity” display featured no notches and no hole-punch camera.
It wouldn’t be outside the norm for Samsung to trial a new feature on a midrange model.
The Galaxy A7 was the first Samsung phone to feature a rear three-camera system and the A8s were the first with a hole-punch display.
Likely, all will be revealed at Samsung’s next event on April 10.
