Worried about weak consumer spending on gaming, Activision Blizzard, has produced a blockbuster with “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2” scored record sales of over $630 million in its first five days.
Despite their gaming blockbuster, the Company is still concerned about the state of the gaming market which in October declined 19%.
The game, a “first-person-shooter” that lets gamers portray elite soldiers hunting down targets in locations ranging from South America to Afghanistan, beat last year’s blockbuster “Grand Theft Auto IV” from Take-Two Interactive Software Inc which sold more than $540 million in its first week said Reuuters.
According to EB Games executives the title is set to be the hottest product running into Xmas with Activision confirming that on the first day they sold
4.7 million copies for $310 million on its first day in the U.S. and United Kingdom alone.
Analysts are tipping that an additional 10 million copies will be sold between now and December 31.
Activision Blizzard chief executive Bobby Kotick said “Despite the success of ‘Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2’, Activision Blizzard remains cautious about the global economy as well as other variables that can affect industry fundamentals and our own performance, including consumer spending which remains a significant concern,” he said in a statement.
