EXCLUSIVE: As we exclusively tipped in December 2010 Sony Music Australia, is set to launch a brand new music service today that allows owners of Sonos gear to access more than 2M songs for as low as $12.95 a month.Owners of a Sonos, wireless multi-room music system, will be offered the service free for 30 days, by Sony Music Australia. The service is totally unrelated to the recently launched Sony Qriocity service.
Niv Novak, the CEO of Playback Systems the distributor of Sonos gear in Australia, claims that users will be able to access the Sony content via an Apple iPad or iPhone application linked to their Sonos system. He said that the new Sony, Anubis.fm service is the first on-demand music service available in Australia for owners of Sonos gear.
“Our goal at Sonos is to provide music lovers with access to all the music on the planet,” said John MacFarlane, CEO, Sonos, Inc. “By adding popular music services to Sonos, like Anubis.fm, we can continue to give our customers the ability to discover and enjoy unlimited music possibilities in any or every room.”
Australians will be able to search, browse and play anything from Anubis.fm’s catalogue of more than 2 million songs, without having to use a computer.
They will also be able to create playlists and programs as well as their own content channels. The content is high quality and includes full length track streaming from the music catalogues of Sony Music, Universal Music, EMI Music, Warner Music, and key independent labels said Novak.
Anubis.fm is available as an option in the Sonos Controller Music Menu under the More Music menu on any Sonos Controller.
Part of a ‘Music on Tap’ plan the new service will cost $12.99 per month.
Owners of a Sonos system which allows users to set up several music zones in their house without the need for cables, can also tune in to more than 100,000 Internet radio stations, shows and podcasts, from around the world.
