EXCLUSIVE:Vodafone is set to get exclusive carrier access to the new 10.1″ Samsung Galaxy Tab, however the launch date and the pricing has not been finalised a senior Samsung Australia executive has confirmed..Originally planned for a March launch in Australia the Samsung device, which is subject to a lot of global speculation following the release of the Apple iPad 2, is expected to ship in late April or early May.
According to Samsung Australia Communications Vice President Tyler McGee, the device will be sold via the Vodafone network initally with no plans for the device to be sold via Telstra who is believed to be planning to launch a low cost house brand 10 inch tablet to compete with the new iPad 2.
Earlier today Vodafone announced that new Nexus S will be available to existing customers from 9 March and to new customers from 16 March on their network.
In Europe speculation has the launch of the new iPad 2 competitor slipping untill May. Last week it was was reported that Samsung would be overhauling its Galaxy Tab 10.1 to compete with the iPad 2 after Samsung’s executive VP of mobile Lee Don-Joo as saying “We will have to improve that parts that are inadequate. Apple made it very thin,” and “The 10-inch was to be priced higher than the 7-inch, but we will have to think this over.”
Since then Samsung has come back to say that there will be no rethink of their tablet hardware configuration.
