Music and audio specialists Yamaha has expanded its soundbar range with two new models that feature Amazon Alexa built-in which will be available from July 2019 from $399.
The two new models — YAS-109 ($399 RRP) and YAS-209 ($599 RRP) — are also Bluetooth enabled and can stream music over WiFi on services like Spotify, Amazon Music and other Alexa-supported music services, as well as a free app for locally-stored content.
The YAS-109 features built-in subwoofers, whereas the YAS-209 includes a separate wireless subwoofer that promises powerful bass.
Both models support Dolby Digital and DTS Digital Surround decoding as well as DTS Virtual:X for immersive 3D surround sound and include an HDMI input and output with ARC.
The soundbars offer Yamaha’s Clear Voice mode to enable users to enhance on-screen dialogue which can be drowned out by music or action sequences.
They support 4K High Dynamic Range (HDR) video with HDMI-connected 4K Ultra HD Blu-ray Disc players or 4K streaming media players and an optical input is provided for devices with no HDMI connections.
Both the YAS-109 and YAS-209 support CEC, which allows consumers to use their existing TV remote control when connected to a CEC-compatible TV.
Yamaha collaborated with the Alexa team on the specialised microphone, both bars will automatically decrease the volume output once triggered by the voice call “Alexa” to ensure the voice assistant can hear the command clearly.
In addition, both models include a remote control with a dedicated Alexa button which can be muted or disabled for added privacy.
The Yamaha YAS-109 ($399 RRP) and YAS-209 ($599 RRP) will be available from July 2019 and will come with 90 days of free access to Amazon Music Unlimited.
