I have just unpacked the Xtreme Mac Tango bar which is a really neat USB powered sound bar that works with any USB enabled PC including both Mac and Windows. The 10 Watt amplified USB powered speaker is a real threat to brands like Logitech, who by their own admission have done a poor job expanding their audio offering.
The device is easy to set up: you simply plug the combined USB power/connector cable to a spare port at the back of your PC then adjust the dial on its right side to raise or lower the volume.
Under the bonnet is six speakers which when we connected the device to a PC pumped out incredible sound.
The Tango bar is the width of a 27″ all-in-one Mac PC and is very stylish with its brushed aluminium silver finish.
A hint of orange around the volume control adds sophistication to the sleek unit which compliments any desktop.
And because it is USB powered the device can be easily packed in a bag making it ideal for business presentations from a notebook or if going on holiday.
When we tested this device we first ran some songs from iTunes. We then tested a movie and several YouTube music clips.
Each and every time, the device excelled. The audio output is rich and balanced, the bass is even impressive when you compare it with what you normally from a traditional Mac or PC.
The Tango Bar has extras including an analogue audio input, a 3.5mm headphone jack and a subwoofer output.
You can also use it with a TV or a portable music player but you will have to plug the USB plug into another adapter to get power.
The device is one of the best small PC sound bars available for a desktop PC environment at $129 and is well worth the money.
