Bunnings – one of Australia’s largest retailers still without an e-commerce site – has finally bit the bullet, and is launching an online store early next year.
The move will come nearly 25 years after the home improvement retailer first launched in Australia.
Bunnings’ website will reportedly include more than 20,000 ‘special order’ products which are not stocked in-store, though can be ordered in. The items include an extended range of taps and fittings, in addition to playgrounds and sheds. Now, in lieu of ordering such items in-store, customers can go online to request them.
Despite having no e-commerce functionality, recent research from Cuponation reveals that Bunnings’ is Australia’s most visited website, with 25.58 million hits between January and March 2017.
The news comes after the DIY giant expanded into Ireland and the UK late last year, where it converted existing Homebase stores to its own brand and pledged to roll out an e-commerce site.
Bunnings Managing Director, Michael Schneider, affirms that the new Australian e-commerce site extends its digital offering, as it works to fuse its physical and virtual offerings:
