Apple iPhone is the new king apparent of smartphones recording 37 MILLION sales last quarter.

iOS rule, Android drool: With Apple results revealed this week, it appear iPhone has won the smartphone war out and out, selling an astonishing 37.04 million devices during the key Oct-Dec period in 2011.
Samsung, by comparison is believed to have sold 32 million smarties including its flagship Galaxy S II, Nexus and Note during the same period, analysts from Dongbu Securities estimate.
The Korean giant does not divulge exact sales of its phones and smartphones but sold 320m handsets in total last year.
Galaxy S II which began in May, surpassed 10 million units quicker than any other Samsung mobile device, although it is not known how long exactly it took the Galaxy maker to hit this milestone.

Apple, who released 4S on October last on iOS 5, and its newest iPhone has had a typical Apple-esque cult following, enjoying global demand like no previous model, selling four million handsets on its first weekend alone in first release countries including Australia, UK and US.
Apple said the 4S outsold the i4 and 3GS during its most recent quarter, despite the older significant models price drop.
Samsung overtook Apple in the third quarter to become the world’s largest smartphone seller after shipping 27.8m units but now these new figures suggest Apple are back on top.
“Our customers are loving iPhone, and we’re very happy with that.” Apple Chief Tim Cook declared.
iPhone 4S, running iCloud and with span new A5 processor also saw the birth of Siri personal assistant.
iPhone demand in China, where Apple has a massive cult following was also”staggering” and with more telco’s set to stock the Apple there, future sales could go through the roof.

“Nearly all of the top companies in the Fortune 500 now approve and support iPhones on their networks,” CFO Peter Oppenheimer said at Apple earnings call this week.
Notable corporate newcomers affliiated to the iPhone iOS include Nike, Facebook, Credit Suisse, and companies are also developing “missioncritical apps” for their employees deployed via mobile devices, Apple said.
But smartphones aside, its Android arch rival Samsung now believes it is well on its way to becoming the largest phone maker in the world.
Revenue and shipments grew substantially led by enhanced market leadership in high end smartphones, demand for which which rose 30% in Q4, Samsung anounced today.
Galaxy S II, Nexus and Note as well as entry level smartphones like Ace and Y shipments all rose, helping the Korean giant profits lift a massive 17%.
Samsung are the biggest phone maker in the world by revenue – beating mobile king Nokia, although the Finnish giant still ships more phones.
Nokia is believed to have shipped 418 million plus phones last year, while Samsung sold around 300 million mobiles last year, analysts believe.
Samsung sells millions of basic mobiles running its Bada OS every year, although the Euros still has the edge in emerging markets like India and Africa.
Nokia, who released its Q4 earnings figures today, which showed a recorded a $1.26bn loss for Q4 and $1.4bn for 2011 year, although sold “well over” 1 million Of Windows OS Lumia smartphones, released in October.
However, only time wil tell if Nokia Windows Phone invasion poses any significant threat to either Samsung or Apple reign as smartphone leaders.
