SYDNEY – Telstra’s second outage in three weeks left an estimated 490,00 pre-paid customers without access to voice or data on Wednesday.Telstra does not dispute the number but says voice services were restored by 9am and data about an hour later.
Those that could took to Twittersphere to complain, but many were unable to do that. Tweets featured on the lack of information on the outage, and some say Telstra was red-faced after a similar outage a few weeks ago. That failure affected up to 16.7 million users and Telstra offered a free day of data – but has refused to do so for this outage.
A Telstra spokesman said the outage was due to a technical issue in the network that manages pre-paid traffic.
He added: “There is a remaining issue with customers being able to see their usage and with customers trying to call overseas, and we are working to fix this these issues.”
